[ubuntu-studio-users] Menu Missing Entire Categories

Hi, I just installed US 16.10? (Can't tell; sysinfo crashes immediately if I click on system, and Ampare only shows kernel version 3.13.0-36-lowlatency). Whisker menu only shows:

Favorites
Recently Used
All
Accessories
Education
Games
Internet
Media Playback
Office
System
Ubuntu Studio Information

If I right-click on the menu icon and open "Edit Applications", I also see:

Audio Production
Graphic Design
Video Production
Development
Other

But these are not present in the Whisker Menu. I believe that the software in those categories has been installed; if I search for "Gimp", for example, I get an entry that states "run gimp",
and clicking on it in fact opens Gimp. But it's not in the menu. I also tried running the meta installer with all it's categories (including the menu item), but it states that everything has been
installed. How do I get the menu properly configured with all the US software?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I'm not entirely sure what your exact problem is, but I've had some bug with disappearing menus a while ago. You could try to install "Alacarte" (sudo apt install alacarte) from the official repositories and click on the "Restore System Configuration" button in the lower right of the program window. That *should* restore the categories.

Captain-Tux: alacarte worked and solved the problem. I thought alacarte was for MATE only and didn't realize that it was a
more general GTK application, so I learned that as well. Thank you very, very much!
